4 Kinds of Facial Aging

Non-Surgical Rejuvenation

We are all aging. For children and young adults it’s a beautiful thing. For the rest of us it’s sometimes a bit more than what we want.

And we like to do something about it. The American society of Plastic Surgeons statistics demonstrate over 12 billion cosmetic procedures were performed in the USA last year and of those only 14 percent were surgical. The rest were minimally invasive or non invasive and account for 45% of the dollars spent. And these non- surgical treatments are increasing. Botox is up 509% and soft tissue fillers are up 164% from 2000-2009. These two treatments combined with chemical peels and microdermabrasion account for 78% of all minimally invasive treatments.

People are looking for things that are less invasive that have low risk with lower cost and little or no downtime. They want to look better, tighter, lifted, and rejuvenated but they want to look natural and they want to look like themselves. We have had some things that help.

4 Kinds of Facial Aging:

There are four ways that people age in the face and four specific ways to address them in a minimally invasive way.

First there is sun damage. This causes fine wrinkles and abnormalities in skin color such as pigmented areas and liver spots. Good skin care is very helpful for these problems and cost effective as well.

Second there are muscular wrinkles. These are seen most commonly between the eyes, forehead, and crows feet area. Botox is most helpful for these areas.

Third there is volume loss of the face. Everyone develops this over time. Most commonly it is seen in the troughs below the eyes, the cheeks, the lateral brow, and the lines between the nose and mouth as well as the corner of the mouth. In addition people lose volume in the lips as well. Soft tissue fillers work well to replenish this lost volume. Radiesse is Dr. Gray’s favorite soft tissue filler for the face, while Juvaderm ultra plus is his favorite for the lip area.

Forth there is skin laxity. This looseness generally starts in the brow area, and progresses to the face, jowl, and neck area over time. Dr. Gray is very impressed with non invasive Ulthera Skin tightening for these problem areas.

1.)Skin Care

Sun damage and time can cause fine wrinkles and pigment irregularities. Good skin care helps with the use of retinA, retinols, hydroquinone along with microdermabrasion and light chemical peels. Retin A regenerates the skin, helps the epidermis grow more evenly and helps reduce fine wrinkles. Hydroquinone will bleach out hyperpigmented areas. Microdermabrasion and light chemical peels will remove excess layers of damaged cells from the surface making the skin softer, smoother and more even in complexion.
