Capsular Contracture
Capsular contracture is a hardness of the breast that develops when scar tissue forms in excess on the breast implant pocket tissues. The rate is lower when the implants are placed submuscularly. Conservative measures are employed first when treating a capsular contracture. These can work. When the conservative measures fail however the recommendation most often is to return to surgery to remove the capsule and replace the implant. Recurrence rate following this capsule removal was relatively high however until recently.
Dr. Gray has pioneered the use of Strattice at the time of this capsule removal and the recurrence rate is now very low.
